Crustcake Picks: NYC Shows 10/2 - 10/8

Crustcake Picks - NYC Shows

by theseseans (NYC)

Jesus! There are A LOT of shows coming up this week, and I am here to give you some highlights of what we here at Crustcake will be making an effort to check out (well, not me, I've getting my wisdom teeth pulled out Saturday morning, fuck. Otherwise, I would obviously be at all of these shows.)

First off, we are really excited about finally getting too see Watain on the Black Magic Tour along with Withered and Book Of Black Earth Wednesday at The Knitting Factory. On the complete opposite end of....well, everything, Jenny Lewis is playing the Apollo Theatre this Saturday night. Granted, she doesn't play metal, and her new album is one my biggest disappointments for this year; she is still amazing live and if she plays anything off of Rabbit Fur Coat it will totally be worth it.

We are also pumped to check out Samothrace, a group we profiled not long ago. They will be playing this week's Precious Metal Show Monday night at Lit Lounge. But that's not all, we've got shows from GWAR, Toxic Holocaust, Unearthly Trance, Goes Cube, Batillus and more. Read more for a complete list of our recommended shows this week.

See you out there.

Crustcake Picks - NYC Shows 6/26 - 7/2

Crustcake Picks - NYC Shows

by crustcake gerf (NYC)

Is there an upcoming NYC metal show you think we should mention? Hit us at crustcake@gmail.com and we'll see what we can do for you. We accept bribes. And by bribes we mean free booze.

It's summer in New York, and you know what that means-- a crapload of free shows. Granted, most of these free shows (e.g. Central Park Summerstage, South Street Seaport, McCarren Park Pool, etc.) are of the indie rock variety-- metal is sadly behind on this trend. Probably because it's more difficult to get sponsors and advertising partners for metal events, and somebody has to pay for these free shows. Even tickets for the metal shows/tours with big corporate underwriters (e.g. Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival) are still fucking expensive. Not that I would ever go see a show sponsored by the son of Michael Weiner aka Michael Savage anyway.

So, let's get down to business. The Summer Slaughter tour is in town today (Summer's Laughter?), details for that below. Also tonight, Grails and Nadja at Knitting Factory (win tickets from BV). Saturday, go check out Cable, Wetnurse, Century, and Vultures at Ace of Clubs and then on Sunday Russian Circles, Daughters, and The Austerity Program will be at Music Hall of Williamsburg.

Make the jump for a full listing, and please let us know if we missed anything.
