Holy shit, Iron Maiden and Van Halen * this week. I'm going to miss both shows, so I'm looking forward to reports from the field.
Monday, 90s experimentalists Today is the Day will be hitting Knitting Factory with Mouth of the Architect, Complete Failure, and Psyopus. I haven't followed Psyopus since 2004's Ideas of Reference, and I have a short attention span for that spazzed out shit, but you really need to hear this song if you haven't yet:

For my money, the best show this week is Witch (J. Mascis) with Graveyard and Titan at Luna Lounge next Wednesday. Luna Lounge is almost always underbooked, and all that cavernous space in there is really a bummer, hopefully there'll be enough Dinosaur Jr. fans there next week to bolster the ranks and fill the place. I'm really looking forward to checking out Graveyard-- if they sound anywhere as good as their record, they could be 2008's Witchcraft.

More Metal Updates Than You Can Shake a Sword At
It's a metal day over at Brooklyn Vegan, with three metal posts so far (four if you count Rush, but why would you?). Black Bubblegum sure is on top of his game!
Included are updates on Disfear, J2, Cursed, Lair of the Minotaur, Psyopus, Megadeth, In Flames, High On Fire, Converge, Baroness, The Red Chord, Coliseum, and the same Sweet Cobra video we posted last week.
Phew!
Black Bubblegum also touches on The Sword's forthcoming sophomore LP, which has been in steady rotation since it hit my desk recently. Gods of the Earth is big folks; epic lyrical themes, pounding percussion, and giant riffs abound.
NYC's Kemado Records are poised for a one-two punch of riffin' revival metal in early 2008-- in addition to Gods of the Earth (out April Fool's day) they're also releasing Saviours new one, Into Abaddon, next Tuesday (also in steady rotation at crustcake HQ).
On top of all that, over at MetalSucks you'll find an update on Century Media's latest acquisition, LA's Intronaut. My partner in crime, beatmasterspeech, will be talking to Sacha and the dudes this weekend, so check back here next week for the interview.
TGIF! Crustcake gerf, signing off.
