[UPDATED 6/24] Duh. Wow, we really need to lay off the sauce and get organized. When we originally published this post we omitted Made Out Of Babies' scathing third LP, The Ruiner, which indeed has a release date of 6/24. Of all the great stuff coming out today, this is the best. More about that here. [end update]
Tomorrow, more 'thrash revival' (we don't care what you say, Warbringer, it's a revival), this time from the band that takes its name from Exodus' seminal debut, Bonded By Blood. While we're on that topic, did you hear that Exodus plans to re-record BBB with their current lineup? Why can't artists just leave their old shit alone. Let it be what it is, don't try to 'fix' it. Are you listening, George Lucas? To quote MetalSucks commenter 'Master of Puppies,' "classics should be left untouched." We couldn't have said it better.
Also out tomorrow, the vinyl version of Boris and Merzbow's Rock Dream, a 3XLP live album recorded in Tokyo in 2006. We're talking nearly two hours of music here, and for a live album this sounds pretty great.
Download: Boris & Merzbow - "Flower, Sun, Rain" [MP3]
And while we're talking Southern Lord and Tokyo, we should mention Coffins' Buried Death. Sludgey, dirty, raw Japanese death-meets-doom metal. Buried Death was released earlier this year via 20 Buck Spin, which quickly sold out. Southern Lord re-issues the album in CD and LP form tomorrow. It's being reissued tomorrow, with distribution through Southern Lord.

Flick Friday - Isis, Keep of Kalessin, Warbringer, Cryptopsy

This week, we've got our bases covered. Below, you'll find post-metal, black metal, thrash metal, and brutal death metal. A little something for everyone. Party!
This first video ain't exactly new, but Pitchfork.TV just added it to their rotation and it's Isis, so we couldn't really avoid posting it. The video is shoegazey high-frame-rate footage of a suicide jumper's fall juxtaposed with Discovery-channel-esque clips of a developing fetus. Stay tuned to the end for some brutal face-melting.
Isis - "Holy Tears":
Our favorite Lords of the Rings, Keep of Kalessin, have just released a video for their song "Ascendant." It's epic (something about "battle the ancients" and "eternity"), and fans/wind were used quite liberally.
Keep of Kalessin - "Ascendant":
Next up, check this great interview with Warbringer conducted by Metal Injection.
Metal Injection: There's a bit of a thrash revival...
Warbringer: That's what they're calling it. We have a different attitude about it though. We didn't start the band going 'let's revive the corpse of 80's thrash metal.' We were like 'let's play metal that is really metal.'
Warbringer - Interview with Metal Injection:
If Kurt Ballou is metal's most in-demand engineer/producer, then David Brodsky must be its most in-demand video director. It seems like he's directed roughly one of every two new metal videos that funnel down the tubes. Must be good to have a steady stream of income doing what you love. Here's Mr. Brodsky's latest, the new video from Montreal's Cryptopsy.
Drummer Flo Mounier, who is one of the fastest motherfuckers out there, says, "This is a straight up, brutal and in-your-face punishing live performance clip that pulls no punches. It’s basically two minutes of unabashed aggression and we had a lot of fun doing it."
The video is a HBB premiere, so apologies to those not in North America.
Cryptopsy - "Worship Your Demons":
Alright, now go get drunk!

When he's not singing in one of the world's most popular bands or piloting a 757, Bruce Dickinson is writing horror films. A true renaissance man indeed. Via BBC:
Dickinson has co-written a horror film, which is to be unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Supernatural thriller Chemical Wedding will then be released in British cinemas in the summer.MetalSucks comments:
The film stars Simon Callow as Professor Haddo, the reincarnation of occultist Aleister Crowley, once described as Britain's most evil man.
[Iron Maiden] are also due to release a compilation album, Somewhere Back in Time, featuring tracks from their first decade, between 1980-89. The album will be provided as a free download [of encrypted WMA files] in May - but it will expire after three listens. Fans will then be offered the chance to buy the album as a permanent DRM-free download.
File this one in the “Trying unsuccessfully to emulate Radiohead / Trent Reznor” folder.
WMA files? Welcome to 2001, dudes. What’s the point of having encrypted WMA files if fans will be able to buy DRM-free versions that they will immediately send to all of their friends / upload to Torrent sites? Furthermore, don’t we all already have these songs, and if not, can’t we just buy them track by track from the original albums at iTunes or Amazon?
I love Maiden, but this marketing ploy is retardi and reeks of “Gee guys, we should really get involved in that digital market thing!”-type board room discussions.
Also from the 'badass old school band on tour' newswire, death metal legends Obituary will be traversing the eastern half of the US in May with Dying Fetus.
