Crustcake Picks - NYC Shows 7/10 - 7/16

Crustcake Picks - NYC Shows

by crustcake gerf (NYC)

As if you didn't know it already, At The Gates are in New York City at this very moment. Tomas and his friends are probably bogged down in endless interviews and press-related events today... That or they're still sleeping. The melodic death metal inventors played the first of two NYC shows last night, and Blabbermouth has the setlist. The second long-soldout show is tonight, but you can still find tickets at face value on Craigslist. Oh, and Municipal Waste is warming up the stage, but get there early-- the neo-thrashers hit the downbeat at shortly after 8pm last night.

Hopefully, though, you saw ATG last night in order to clear your schedule today for Torche, Boris, and Clouds at Webster Hall. If you're not going to see At The Gates tonight, go see Torche and Boris! I cannot stress this enough-- GO SEE TORCHE. It's required for all crustcake readers. Have a full report on my desk in the morning-- six pages, single spaced, 10-point font-- or you get an F.

Make the jump for more, and please let us know if we missed anything.

On Saturday, friend of the site Jaclyn Sheer will be showcasing her photography at Death By Audio. Why should you give a shit? Because Ms. Sheer has secured a kickass lineup of four of New York's best metallic ensembles for you to enjoy while guzzling brews from DBA's semi-legal bar: Krallice, Wetnurse, Bloody Panda, and Tombs. It's only $7, and it's not like you have anything better to do on Saturday.

Harvey Milk Played Knitting Factory [6/20/08]

Harvey Milk

by crustcake gerf (NYC) photos by Scott Roc

Harvey Milk played Knitting Factory on Friday, joined by Deadbird, Ocean, and Bloody Panda. I really thought Harvey Milk were more well known, but the show was at the Tap Bar, a smaller room than the Main Space upstairs. The good news was that, unlike Main Space shows, I didn't have to fight the crowd to get up close. Milk killed it, and all you New Yorkers will have another chance to catch them-- they're playing tonight at Europa with A Storm of Light, PIGS, and Tournament.

Photos from the show after the jump.

Crustcake Picks - NYC Shows 6/19 - 6/25

Crustcake Picks - NYC Shows

by theseseans (NYC)

Hey crustcakers. We are continuing with our initiative to have these posts focus more on their respective city's local music scene. We think these posts will be more valuable that way, and we want to support local music. If you live somewhere with a healthy local underground music scene and you want to write a weekly update on shows in your area, please get in touch with us. Let us know where you live and tell us a little bit about the local scene there. If you live in NYC or LA please feel free to contact us with info about local acts we aren't covering.

This week in NYC we have got a healthy amount shows, lucky for us they are accessibly spread out. This week's highlight is without a doubt two chances to see Harvey Milk, Friday night at The Knitting Factory and Monday at Europa.

Saturday, go see My Skull Your Closet at Fat Baby; the band features members of both Small Brown Bike and Thoughts of Ionesco. Monday you've got your second chance to see Harvey Milk, this time playing with (attention Neurosis fans) A Storm of Light, or you can go to the always excellent Precious Metal at Lit Lounge (feat. Ehnahre, Archon, Orphan, and Batillus.) And finally if we don't see you on Tuesday at Made Out Of Babies' album release party at Union Pool, we will hunt you down and make you look like the kid on their debut's cover. Ya' Heard?

NYC show picks 6/19 - 6/25:

Friday 6/20 - Harvey Milk, Bloody Panda, Ocean, Deadbird @ Knitting Factory

Saturday 6/21 - My Skull Your Closet (featuring members of Small Brown Bike and Thoughts of Ionesco) @ Fat Baby

Monday 6/23 - Harvey Milk, Growing, A Storm of Light, PIGS @ Europa

Monday 6/23 - Orphan, Ehnahre, Archon, Batillus

Tuesday 6/24 - Made Out Of Babies, Dianogah, The Austerity Program @ Union Pool
See you out there!

Crustcake Picks - NYC Shows 6/12 - 6/18

Crustcake Picks - NYC Shows

by crustcake gerf (NYC)

Hey crustcakers. So we have a new plan with these 'Crustcake Picks Shows' posts. Let me explain-- moving forward, we'll be focusing these posts more on their respective city's local music scenes, rather than just giving you a heads-up on tours coming through town. We think these posts will be more valuable that way, and we want to support local scenes.

Thus far, these show updates have only been for NYC and LA, but there is certainly the possibility of adding more cities in the future. If you live somewhere with a healthy local underground music scene and you want to write a weekly update on shows in your area, please get in touch with us. Let us know where you live and tell us a little bit about the local scene there.

Anyway, here are this week's NYC shows. Tonight, Bloody Panda is getting their death-ritual on at fittingly-named Death By Audio while The End Records is presenting another installment of their N.W.O.B.H.M. (New Wave of Brooklyn Heavy metal) series, this time featuring Goes Cube, Pax Cecilia, Naam.

Oh and check this out: Chef, er, Issac Hayes is totally playing a free show at Prospect Park Bandshell tonight! Can you dig it?

Friday, go see Hull at Fontana's with Ayurveda, Denim Venom, and Clean Teeth, and then on Monday take your pick between 'Precious Metal' at Lit Lounge (feat. Harpoon, Muzzler, Romans, and Bazooka Christ) or Transistor Transistor, Reclaim the Crown, Killing the Dream, Trap Them, and The Carrier at Knitting Factory.

Busy week.
