AMON AMARTH ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM, SURTUR RISING

Amon Amarth

It's not like Amon Amarth are going to blow you away with complex time signatures or an intricate concept album. But sometimes steak and potatoes hits the spot better than any fusion cuisine and sometimes you just need a little Odin on your side. The Tumba, Sweden, quintet's 2008 album, Twilight of the Thunder God set the bar pretty high for simple, catchy, beer-hall metal and I doubt the newly-announced Surtur Rising -- due March 29, 2011 -- will disappoint.

The modern-day Vikings also announced tour dates for next year; no American shows yet, but they're bound to happen. And judging by their last performance at Irving Plaza, you don't want to miss out. Dates and live footage below.

Amon Amarth 2011 European Tour:

4/1 NORWICH, GB
4/2 MANCHESTER, GB

The ring-tone on my phone is "Pursuit of Vikings." 'Nuff said.

Mine's Twilight of the Thunder God. More epic.
