New Mastodon Song

Mastodon - Divinations

"Divinations." Put it in your earholes. It's hard to tell due to the painfully tinny 28k (estimated) lo-fi MySpace stream, but "Divinations" is a progged out monster of a song-- more melodic and hooky than most of the band's previous efforts, and we're definitely feeling it.

Perhaps nothing the band does will ever top Remission with regards to raw power and aggression, but Mastodon certainly seems to be evolving nicely.

"Divinations" comes off the highly-anticipated Crack the Skye, which is due out later this year. Bassist Troy Sanders recently revealed Mastodon's love for King Crimson: "Some aspects of 'Crack the Skye' are extremely progressive I think, but I don't feel it's going to be labelled as a progressive rock album. As far as prog rock goes, we all love King Crimson. Roughly ten years ago, our guitarist Brent introduced me to King Crimson. I've fallen in love with the group, and listen to their material all the time. King Crimson are both amazing, and mind blowing."

If you can't stand the MySpace stream and can't wait for the album to drop, the single is available on iTunes, if you're the type to spend nearly a buck on a single MP3... Us? Not so much.
