Coliseum Played Europa, Playing Everywhere Else Soon

Holy schlongnuts, Coliseum! Where the hell did that come from? Remember that time I saw you at Webster Hall?

When I arrived at Webster Hall-- towards the end of Louisville, Kentucky-based Coliseum's set-- the place was virtually vacant. The way Coliseum's super-charged, balls-to-the-wall rock and roll echoed through the space to nothing but scattered polite applause, you would have thought they were doing a soundcheck or a dress rehearsal.

Despite the crowd's non-response-- and despite someone in the front saying at one point, "you guys are good, it's just not my thing"-- they were incredibly thankful and appreciative. They brought their A-game and in an intimate venue with a more responsive crowd (and a generous supply of Pabst) I can imagine a Coliseum show turning into a veritable bacchanal.

So, I wouldn't exactly call Europa 'intimate,' and I wouldn't describe the scene as a 'bacchanal,' but the crowd on Sunday was anything but unresponsive. And the band, those three dudes-- Ryan Patterson with his beard, Mike Pascal with his Spinal Tap kicks, and Chris Maggio with his percussion fury-- they were not the same three dudes I saw at Webster Hall. They took me completely off guard on Sunday.
