Flick Friday - Boris, The Roots

Flick Friday

by crustcake gerf (NYC)

Other than what can be inferred from the title, I really have no idea what Boris' "My Neighbor Satan" is about because it's, you know, in Japanese. But this whimsical video is one of the most minimalistic 'music videos' I've ever seen-- five minutes and twenty five seconds, one take, static camera, and mostly static, out-of-focus performers.

You'd think that those factors combined would make for a dull video, and that click-happy web surfers would be quick to move on, but I find myself strangely drawn in. It's like a zen thing, or whatever.

And what is that contraption Wata's playing? Looks (and sounds) like some sort of MIDI guitar or something.

Boris - "My Neighbor Satan":

How do you make a cubicled office space cool? Add The Roots, of course. This video for the track "Get Busy" includes white collars, ties, copy machines, and an afro pick flash drive. Oh, and DJ Jazzy Jeff. Yes!

The song is gritty and grimy, with a heavy beat. Dig it.
