Waltz Wednesdays #4 - beatmasterspeech

Waltz Wednesdays

This is the final installment of "Waltz Wednesdays," in which we've featured some of our favorite moments from Martin Scorcese's classic rock n' roll film The Last Waltz. All mp3s featured in "Waltz Wednesdays" are the versions from The Last Waltz.

And so we meet at the top of my lil’ list of favorites from The Last Waltz. "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" is such an epic song. In fact, Mirriam-Webster should add an MP3 of the song to epic's definition page, autoplay=TRUE.

Levon Helm’s voice is so fitting for this tune, and his passion for the song and story shows in this clip. On the books, it's Canadian Robbie Robertson who's credited with penning the tune, but I have a hunch that Levon, a Southerner, had a major hand in this composition and just didn’t pay attention to the business end of things when it came to register songwriter shares with the publishers... but that’s another story.

So sit back and listen to history being told through this epic song...
