Psychedelic pioneer and Witchcraft-favorite Roky Erickson will be at Webster Hall and Maxwell's on March 1 and 2, respectively. Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth fame and his band, The New Wave Bandits, open. Tickets for the Maxwell's show-- which is highly-recommended over Webster despite the trip to Hoboken-- will be on sale tomorrow at noon here.
Roky Erickson was recently covered by Witchcraft and he played a free show last summer, which I missed.
A few months ago, venerable music blog Covert Curiosity posted a very nice, very thorough overview of Roky, including several mp3s and the following trailer for You're Gonna Miss Me, a "brilliant documentary that chronicles Roky's wild, inspiring story":
Wild and inspiring, indeed.[MP3] Roky Erickson - "You're Gonna Miss Me" (live)[MP3] [via] Witchcraft - "Sweet Honey Pie" (Roky Erickson cover)[MP3] Thurston Moore - "Fri/End"
