I wasn't too stoked for last night's $40 Mars Volta gig and didn't make it out. Reports from the front lines are now surfacing, and reactions are mixed-- Hidden Track was digging it but The Punk Guy begs to differ.
Apparently, the band played for two and a half hours without stopping, which, unsurprisingly, wasn't that many songs.
The aforementioned Punk Guy has some rare mp3s and Brooklyn Vegan has some nice photos.
More after the jump.
The Mars Volta are releasing their fourth LP, The Bedlam in Goliath, at the end of the month and basically everyone is just wondering if it will be another let-down or a return to the greatness that was 2003's De-Loused in the Comatorium. Apparently, Cedric doesn't quite see it that way:“This is dedicated to all the people who want us to keep making the first two albums over and over again,” singer-lyricist Cedric Bixler-Zavala snapped at the audience last night, deep into the second hour of the Mars Volta’s 160-minute concert at New York’s Terminal 5—before giving the sold-out crowd a long scorched-earth blast of “Drunkship of Lanterns,” from the band’s 2003 debut album, De-Loused in the Crematorium. I guess we'll find out soon enough.[MP3] The Mars Volta - "Wax Simulacra"[MP3] The Mars Volta - "The Widow"

We don't want you to make the first two albums over and over again, Cedric. We want you to make the FIRST one over and over again.
