Boston's Doomriders have announced plans for their sophomore full-length, due later this year via Deathwish Inc. Doomriders are known for taking good old fashioned rock n' roll and throwing it in a blender with hardcore, punk, Danzig, skateboards, Thin Lizzy, and a host of other elements. Out comes what's best described as, well, I'll quote the band themselves: "death and roll punk rock hardcore mayhem."
Despite only having one album under their belts (and a handful of splits, with the likes of Coliseum and Boris), Doomriders are far from rock n' roll neophytes-- Nate Newton of progressive hardcore heavyweights Converge is at the helm and behind the kit is JR Connors of Cave In.
Their first album, Black Thunder, was as solid a debut as any, and contains 13 carefully crafted songs ranging from the galloping twin-guitar assault of opener "Black Thunder" to the super-charged bluesy swagger of "Listen Up," the lyrics to which are simply, "get off my fuckin' back" (evidently the song is about driving in Boston). From Danzig tribute "Midnight Eye" to the broad ternary groove of album finale "Sirens," Black Thunder has it all.
All the raw, aggressive energy crammed into Black Thunder explodes in Doomriders' live show. Go to their shows expecting to be thoroughly rocked, expecting Nate to be shirtless, expecting the riffs to be turned up-- both in volume and tempo, expecting attitude and swagger, and you won't be disappointed.
Doomriders recently scored an opening slot on Danzig's short-lived (and uncompleted) east coast tour, which garnered them a taste of the attention they deserve, though certainly not enough. If their ferocious debut and potent live set are any indication, Doomriders could be poised to release one of the strongest albums of '08. We're certainly pulling for them, and we'll keep you posted on any updates as they come along.
