Crustcake Picks - NYC Shows 1/31 - 2/6

Ok, so we got some interesting stuff going down in NYC this week...

I tend to be a fan of Indie Rock that emphasizes the Rock part, so I am pretty stoked about the second installment of New York Magazine's New York by New York experiment. Tonight at Studio B, The Thermals will be the house band for an evening of indie rock karaoke. I've heard the shindig was pretty swell last time around (with Of Montreal), so work up your best Hutch Harris impersonation and come on down!

Also in the realm of Indie-Rock-emphasis-on-the-Rock-part stuff, The Whigs will be at Music Hall of Williamsburg tomorrow. They just released a new album on Dave Matthews' label, ATO, so you know they must be good, right? Right? Well... uhh... yeah, actually they're pretty good.

And then, just when you thought it couldn't possibly get any better, guess who'll be at Beacon Theater Saturday night.... None other than They Might Be Giants, that's who!

Then, after all that indie rock (and comedy rock), you'll probably be a little parched. Wash it all down with a healthy serving of thrash-- old school and new-- at the ever loathed ($7 drafts and the music is never loud enough) BB King's on Monday. I'm looking forward to seeing if Warbringer can bring it live.
