Crustcake Picks - New Music 1/8

Crustcake Picks New Music

Norway's Gorgoroth embody (or embodied) the truest black metal ethos, controversial though it may be. They are unapologetically anti-Christian, pro-Satan (but not in the way you're thinking) and pro-church burning. Case in point:

Where on the spectrum between bad joke and dead serious Gaahl-- and 'true' (i.e. not Dimmu Borgir) Black Metal in general-- falls is open to discussion, but we certainly find the whole thing entertaining. Entertaining, that is, until shit starts burning.

The above interview is from the 2005 documentary Metal: A Headbanger's Journey which, for our money, is the best metal documentary out there, especially as an introductory exposé for those uninitiated friends and family members. Hmmm, perhaps the perfect gift for grandma's birthday?

Tomorrow, Regain Records is releasing a CD version (and MP3 version, for that matter) of Gorgoroth's 1996 7" Live in Bergen (that's Scandinavia, not the Garden State) and next week, guest blogger Black Metal Jim* will be here to offer up his take on the EP, so stay tuned.

That's really the only new(ish) thing this week that piqued our interest. Well, the new Medeski, Martin, & Wood did too until we realized it was a children's album.

For a bigger, less small, more extensive list of tomorrow's new releases, kindly make your way to Largehearted Boy.

This week's pick(s):

Gorgoroth - Live in Bergen 1996 [Amazon]
