Crusty Clip of the Week

Let’s not forget the brutal beginnings of death metal! Death was one of death metal's most influential bands and Chuck Schuldiner was a metal genius. Death’s first three full-length releases (1987's Scream Bloody Gore, 1988's Leprosy, and 1990's Spiritual Healing) were amazing death metal records which helped to define that straight-forward, brutal Floridian sound.

With the release of Human in 1991, Schuldiner began to expand into a more technically advanced approach to songwriting; the songs became more brutal and more complex. Don’t get me wrong, I loved all the early Death records, but when I think of Death and Chuck Schuldiner I think of amazing technical riffs mixed with complex brutal drumming and the catchiest leads. Check out this video for "Lack of Comprehension" from Human to see what I’m getting at.

R.I.P. Chuck!
